NEXGEN's Preventive Maintenance module provides users with the option to associate multiple schedules to a specific PM program. Users also have the option to have no schedule associated with a PM. For an overview of our PM module and our different schedule types please read through our PM Module Overview article.

Parent PMs in List View
The Parent PM is the top level of a PM schedule. When a PM has any type of schedule attached to it, the PM record is split into two records: a parent PM record and a child PM record.
Below is an example of how a Parent PM record would look like in list view.
Note: As of web version 11.3, Parent PM records are not visible in grid view.
Why Edit at the Parent PM Level?
If a PM has multiple schedules attached, users can edit schedule priorities at the parent level and determine how schedules should supersede each other. Users can also adjust checklist items at the parent level and associate specific checklist items to all or only some schedule types. However, in most instances, users will find it helpful to edit PMs at the child level, especially if they have any specific notes or attachments they would like added to a PM or if they need to mark the PM as inactive. Those particular changes have to be made at the child level.
Child PM
Child PMs are created automatically in NEXGEN when a schedule is attached to a parent PM. Therefore, child PMs are always associated with a parent PM record. The Child PM is visible in list view after a user expands the Parent PM. In Grid View, child PMs are listed by default.
Single PM
When a PM record is first created, if there is no schedule attached to that PM, it appears in NEXGEN as a single PM. The PM also appears in Grid View. Each single PM must be manually fired since the PM does not have a schedule associated with it.
