Asset Smart Numbering - Company Options

Smart numbering allows end users to configure an asset numbering convention based on location, class, and/or process. With smart numbering enabled, organizations can ensure naming conventions are followed and limit the possibility of asset naming errors. End users can also learn to identify assets more easily through smart numbering. Before configuring smart numbering, users should enable this feature in the Company Options module and keep the following notes in mind:
  1. Users can use smart numbering or auto numbering for assets within NEXGEN, but cannot use both at the same time. Enabling smart numbering will override any asset naming conventions established at the class level and in the AutoNumber module.
  2. Existing assets will remain with old numbering. Once smart numbering is turned on, new assets will have smart numbering. Users should reach out to NEXGEN through the Help Portal or at support@nexgenam.com if they would like to update the numbering of old assets.
  3. GIS assets will not be affected by smart numbering.
  4. Users should reach out to NEXGEN if they would like to update the numbering old assets. To do this, submit a ticket through the Help Portal or email support@nexgenam.com.

Enabling Smart Numbering in Company Options

To enable smart numbering:
  1. From the NEXGEN dashboard, click "Settings" in the blue task bar to the left.
  2. Click "Setup."
  3. Click "Company Options."
  4. Select "General" under the domain you would like to make edits to.
  5. Click "Edit" in the top right corner of the module.
  6. Check off "Enable Smart Numbering" to allow for smart numbering within your NEXGEN site.
    1. Enter values for the Smart Numbering Segment field and the Smart Numbering Start Value field, if applicable.
    2. If you would like to enable the option to edit smart numbering, toggle "Edit Smart Numbering" on.
  7. Click "Save" when finished.
