QR Code Overview - iPad

QR codes can be used throughout the NEXGEN app and serve different functionalities depending on where the QR code icon is located. This article goes over the different methods of using QR codes on the iPad in three different modules.

QR Codes in the Asset Inventory Module

Adding QR Codes to Assets

You can tag your organization's assets with QR codes to make it easier to pull up their asset records in the field. To add a QR code to an asset:
  1. Open the Asset Inventory module by touching it at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Find the asset you want to attach a QR code to and open its record.
    1. If you are adding a new asset, touch "+" at the bottom left of the screen.
    2. If you are adding a QR code to an existing asset, use the filters or search bar to pull its record up.
  3. Scroll down to find the QR code section.
  4. Add your QR code to the asset.

    1. Manually input the QR code number, or
    2. Tap the barcode icon to scan and add a QR code.
  5. Touch "Save" at the top right.




Viewing Asset Records Using QR Codes

Once an asset is tagged with a QR code, you can scan that QR code to pull up the asset's record instantaneously. This is useful for when you are working in the field. To quickly pull up an asset record using QR codes:
  1. Touch the NEXGEN Hot Spot.
  2. Touch "Scan QR Code/Bar Code."
  3. The camera will open. Use it to scan the QR code.
  4. The asset record associated with the QR code will display on the screen.


QR Codes in the Work Order Module

In addition to the Asset Inventory module, QR codes can be found in the Work Order module. These can be used to quickly add assets to a work order or to search for assets attached to a work order, which is especially useful if you have a sizable list of assets to look through.

Adding Assets to a Work Order

  1. Go to the Work Order module at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Touch a work order to pull up its record.
  3. Touch the Assets tab.
  4. Touch "+Asset" to go to the Add Asset page.
  5. Touch the barcode icon at the top right.
  6. Use the camera to scan the asset's QR code. 
  7. The asset will pop up on the bottom half of the screen. Touch it to select it.
  8. Touch "Save" at the top right.


Searching for Work Order Assets Using QR Codes

  1. Go to the Work Order module at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Touch a work order to pull up its record.
  3. Touch the Assets tab.
  4. Touch the barcode next to the search bar.
  5. Your device's camera will turn on. Use it to scan the asset's QR code.


QR Codes in the Warehouse Inventory Module

Using QR codes in the Warehouse Inventory module is very similar to using them in the Asset Inventory module. However, instead of being attached to assets, these QR codes will be attached to warehouse items and will take you to the associated item's record.

Attaching QR Codes to Warehouse Items

  1. Navigate to the Warehouse Inventory module by touching "Warehouse" at the bottom of the screen.
  2. In a new or existing item record, scroll down to the QR Code field.
  3. Add the QR code.
    1. Enter the numerical code by touching the field itself, or
    2. Touch the barcode icon to scan a QR code and attach it to this item.
  4. Touch "Save" at the top right corner of the screen,

Searching for Item Records Using QR Codes

  1. Navigate to the Warehouse Inventory module by touching "Warehouse" at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Touch the barcode icon at the top right.
  3. Scan your QR code.
  4. The associated item's record will display on the screen.
