NEXGEN's GIS module allows users to view their linear assets from within their maintenance management system. From the map, NEXGEN users can add new work orders for multiple assets, review asset information, and more.

Accessing the GIS Module
To access the GIS module, follow these steps:
Scroll over the Assets icon .
Click on GIS.
GIS Functions and Tools
There are a number of functions and tools that can be utilized in the GIS module.
Zoom: To zoom in or out of the map, use the + and - buttons located at the bottom of the screen. If the correct asset layers for the items you want to view are set but assets are not visible on the map, try zooming in.
Pan: To pan around the map, simply click and drag using the left click button on your mouse.
Legend: The legend shows which symbols represent which assets on the map. To view the legend, click the legend icon on the top left corner of the screen. The legend will display information for only the layers that have been selected.
Layers: Layer selection allows you to select which map layers are viewable on the map. To access your layers, click the layer icon on the top left corner of the screen.
Working with Assets
Locating Assets
Type an address into the address bar at the top of the screen. As you type, the address should populate in a menu below the search bar.
Click the correct address and a pin will drop on the map. Around the pin, you will be able to view any assets present.
Selecting and Viewing Assets
After you've located assets on the map, you will be able to interact with them with various tools displayed in the toolbar on the top of the left side of the map.
Tool Bar Icon: Used to or close the toolbar.
Clear Selection: Used to clear the map of any selections you've made.
Single Select: Used to select a single asset on the map.
Multiple Select: Used to select multiple assets on the map by clicking on each asset individually.
Select by Rectangle: Click and drag to draw a rectangle that selects all the assets located within its boundaries.
Select by Polygon: Click to create a starting point. Continue clicking to create a polygon that selects all the assets located within its boundaries.
Identify Features: Click the icon. Then click an asset to view its basic information.
Measure Distance: Click to create a starting point. Click again to view the distance between the two points.
Draw Rectangle: Click and drag to mark the map with a rectangle.
Draw Ellipse: Click and drag to mark the map with an ellipse.
Draw Arrow: Click and drag to mark the map with an arrow.
Insert Text: Click to create a text box.
Print Map: Used to print the map.
Basemap Gallery: Used to change the appearance of the basemap. Users can select from a variety of stock basemaps or custom basemaps if they have been configured.
Add a Service Request: Click the icon and then click a point on the map to mark it with a Service Request pin.
Click for Refresh: Used to refresh the map.
Click for Edit: Used to edit the basemap.
Adding Assets to WOs/Inspections/Condition Assessments from the Map
In some cases, such as when creating new work orders, you might want to add assets directly from the map. To do so from the GIS module, follow the steps below:
Navigate to the GIS module.
Hover over the asset inventory icon on the left hand side.
Click GIS.
Expand the GIS tools by clicking on the Tool Bar Icon.
Select assets using any of the selection tools.
An accordion window will appear to the right of the map. Click the drop-down arrows next to the Add New and Add to Existing buttons to do things like assign assets to WOs/PMs/Inspections/CAs.
Creating Service Requests Using the Map
You might also want to create service requests directly from the map. To do so through the GIS module, follow the steps below:
Navigate to the GIS module.
Hover over the asset inventory icon on the left hand side.
Click GIS.
Expand the GIS tools by clicking on the Tool Bar Icon.
Click on the Ask for Service Request icon in the toolbar . Once you click on the map a pin will appear that will allow you to create a SR.
Hover over the pin you've made and click the + icon. A SR form will appear.
Fill out the SR details as needed and click Save to save your new SR. Some fields will already be filled in as a result of pulling information directly from the map.
