GIS FAQs
Why can't I see the assets I want to view?
Ensure that the appropriate asset layers are selected by clicking the paper stack icon and then checking the boxes for the assets you want to view. If possible, only check off layers that are specific to what you need; otherwise, the assets on the map will take a considerable amount of time to load.
If you still can't see the assets on your map, try zooming in. Assets are only visible if you zoom in closely enough. Zoom in by using the + sign at the bottom right.
How do I draw on the map?
Draw on the map by using any of the tools listed below. These are found in the map's toolbar, which you can open by clicking the three bar icon next to the address search box. Any drawings you make on the map will be retained if you choose to print the map by clicking the Print icon.
What is the Query tab?
The Query tab, denoted by a magnifying glass icon, is used to highlight and select groups of assets on the map. You can enter a parameter — for example, bridges — and click Display, which will show you any bridges present within your organization's set geofence. You can also save your query settings for later use by clicking Save Query.
How and why should I change the base map?
The base map is essentially the map's appearance and can be changed by clicking the image icon in the GIS toolbar. Changing the base map is up to personal or organizational preference, but some base maps might make asset icons pop more than others.
How do I measure distances within the GIS module?
The NEXGEN web app has a dedicated distance measuring tool in the toolbar. Click it and click on the map to get an estimate of the distance between two points. Unfortunately, this feature is not yet available for NEXGEN mobile.
I've selected some assets. How can I add them to a WO, CA, or inspection?
After selecting assets in the GIS module, a box will pop up on the bottom right that states the number of assets you have selected. Tap it to view a list of selected assets. In this list, you can tap "Add" to add all of the listed assets to a new work order, condition assessment, or inspection.
